BREAKING THE NEWS TO YOUR PARENTS
|
It is not an easy thing to break this news but we are all human and we all make mistakes .
|
1. Do it NOW. Don’t procrastinate! You may be nervous and scared of their reaction but you can do it. Pregnancy does not just go away. It is a life changing event and your parents need to know.
2. If you are concerned about their reaction, think about having a trusted friend of the family or a relative there with you as you share the news. Or you may consider your pastor, youth leader or another spiritual advisor.
3. No time is going to be the perfect time to break the news. But plan accordingly. Make sure to pick a time when your parents will not be in a hurry to go somewhere and will have plenty of time to talk.
4. Understand that when you share the news with your parents they may feel hurt, disappointed, even angry. Every parent has dreams for their child. There is a grieving process each parent has to go through as we let go of those dreams. Be very patient and understanding with them. I know…you’re the “child” in the situation but give them a break…parents are human too! They have hearts that break and very real concerns such as: your well being, education, financial concerns, and the realization of having a GRANDBABY on the way and how to care for the new little one.
5. You break the news and they flip out. The topic of abortion. Be prepared. Educate yourself about the risks involved. Please look at our information on Abortion Education and Abortion Patients Rights.
6. Above all else remember …You are a parent now. You may not be able to hold your baby in your arms however a precious life is growing within you right now. Be Prepared, Get educated and Make the Best Choice for your Child.
